What you get with RBM
A house slab is the one thing in your new build you can’t fix afterwards. Get it right once: accurate set-out, correct reinforcement, clean penetrations, and a finish that’s level under the frame.
RBM pours new-build residential slabs across East Gippsland, from waffle-pod systems on flat residential blocks to raft slabs on reactive soils in rural subdivisions. Every slab is poured to engineer specification under AS 2870, the Australian Standard for residential slabs and footings that ties slab design to your site’s soil classification. We coordinate with your builder and plumbers so the slab is ready on the booked frame day.

How an RBM house slabs job runs
Not hypothetical. This is the same process we’ve refined across 5+ years of East Gippsland work.
- Step 01
Site assessment
Soil check, fall, access for the truck and concrete pump, and drainage review.
- Step 02
Excavation & site cut
Site cut to engineer specification, with fill and compaction where needed.
- Step 03
Set-out & plumbing coordination
Accurate set-out from the builder’s drawings; plumbing penetrations confirmed before pour day.
- Step 04
Waffle pods / formwork
Pods laid or formwork set for raft/conventional slabs, reinforcement placed to engineer spec.
- Step 05
Pour & finish
Pour scheduled around weather, screeded and finished to the builder’s specification.
- Step 06
Cure & frame-ready handover
Managed cure, final clean, and confirmation the slab is ready for the frame crew.
What moves the price on a house slabs job
These are the reasons a reliable concreter doesn’t hand out a price per square metre over the phone. Get any of these wrong in the estimate and the job loses money, which is where variations and rushed corners come from.
Slab system
Waffle pod, raft or conventional: each has different pod, reinforcement and concrete requirements.
Soil classification
Reactive clay sites need more reinforcement and often more excavation.
Site fall and fill
A sloped block may need cut/fill or a step-down in the slab, which adds excavation and formwork.
Size and shape
Square, rectangular slabs are cheaper per m² than complex footprints with multiple returns.
Access
Tight urban sites may require pumped concrete; rural sites may need extra truck movements.
Plumbing penetrations
More penetrations mean more set-out time and careful pour management.
